On Friday, July 3—when a lot of us will be off for a big holiday weekend anyway!—the American Idiot kings from Northern California are coming to Seattle. They’ll be at the Key Arena at 8:00.
The concert will be the kickoff of Green Day’s new tour, and following Seattle the band will hit major cities across the U.S and Canada, including Vancouver, Winnipeg, Fargo, Chicago, Detroit, Boston, New York and twenty-nine other locations.
Then Bille Joe and company will be heading off to Europe to play in Portugal, Germany, Ireland and eleven other countries. The tour will end in November.
Fans can also join the official fan club, the Idiot Club for $20, and enter contests, giveaways, chances at presale tickets, exclusive media clips and access to the member’s-only fan site. At this particular concert, members of the Idiot Club can enter to become an official photographer during the show; winners will get a camera to take pictures from the media pit and have his or her photos showcased on the Green Day website.
Green Day’s latest album, 21st Century Breakdown, was released in May. The groundbreaking three-part rock opera is based on Armstrong’s dual personality, portrayed by two yin-and-yang type characters. In traditional Green Day boldness, the ills of the world and the yearning to create peace are both expressed, not on a soapbox but in an accessible way for 21st century youth to relate to and understand, particularly in times of trouble like America is seeing at the moment.
The limited special edition of 21st Century Breakdown is only available from the official Green Day website.
Following the concert, Green Day will also have their own exclusive version of Rock Band released on July 7. The three-song pack from the new album will include songs "21 Guns," "Know Your Enemy" and "East Jesus Nowhere.”
New York City indie rock and electronica band The Bravery will be playing during the Seattle concert as well—along with many of the other cities in the tour. Having made the top 10 in America and the top 5 in England, fans will likely be pleased with this choice of opening act.
Tickets are on sale now. Grab yours from your favorite ticket seller, Ticketmaster outlets, or charge them by phone at (800) 745-3000.
